cannot transfer (FTP) 10GB file, also scp dont work


Hello, i'm sure someone of u will know how to do this:

here is my situation:

2 servers, i have 10 gig file at one and i want to move it to other one.

i tried scp but it shown some ssh_identification error...so i let it be

then tried ftp but that one said "file too large" so now i dont know how to do this

also tried to move file to www and wget but got 403....

thank you for ur advice,

That file size will cause a LOT of problems with protocols expecting a 4-byte (aka, 32 bit) file length (2.14 GB limit). I suggest 3 things:

1. SCP *should* work, I've done big files with it. Posting the specific error message might help us get it going.
2. Rsync will also handle big files, preferrably with rsync over ssh (rsync -e ssh).
3. You could use "split" to split it into a number of <2GB files, transfer them, and then recombine it on the other end. I'd be happy to help you with any of these, just ask.

thx for reply.. here is what i get from scp:

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host

from rsync: i get [host]: Connection refused

well thing is i need some way to see "progress" of the download as those are so big files - something similiar to wget one - so in split it shud work..but i'd prefer looking for solution without spliting
