cannot telnet postfix smtp 25 on external ip

I need help with telnet xx.xx.xx.xx 25
I can telnet 127.0.0.1 25 and get the postfix program
I can telnet domain.name 25 and get the post fix program
however it is on 127.0.0.0
If I telnet xx.xx.xx.xx which is my external ip it gives me a connection refused error.

what needs to be configured. is this postfix issue or
something else?

Many ISPs block port 25 to any IP other than their own mail servers to avoid spam.

Hi,

You can attempt to nmap the external IP to see if something is listening on 25 or if 25 if filtered.

I assume if you have a firewall or gateway of some sort, that 25 is forwarded to the IP of the mail server? If not, check that first.

Regards,

I don't understand the above statement. What does "it" refer to?

What's the output of
Code:
postconf inet_interfaces
