cannot stat /etc/X11/X (no such file or directory)

hi, i just did a fresh install of debian sarge on my g4 powerbook. and x will not start. upon typing 'startx', i get a couple lines mentioning which .Xauthority and .xinitrc it's using, followed by

Code:
cannot stat /etc/X11/X (no such file or directory)
i haven't the slightest idea what to do with this error, and cannot find any similar threads on this forum. help?

X server needs to exist

I just installed Debian Etch on a fresh computer and got the same error. I had not done a full desktop installation, as I did not want a bunch of packages that I was not going to use, so I installed KDE separately.

Xorg was not installed as a dependency for KDE, as I hoped it would, and so it would not start. The following command solved my problem:

#apt-get install xorg

I hope this helps
