Cannot start pure-ftpd

For some weird reason I cannot get the pure-ftpd service to start. It's configured to start while booting but when I try to logon to my FTP it times out. The status of service is "unused" and when I try to start it I get the following:
> /etc/init.d/pure-ftpd start
Starting pure-ftpd.................................................failed

I configured it using kcmpureftpd and everything in the 'pure-ftpd.conf' file seems ok. I have absolutely no idea why this happening as I once set it up on Mandrake 9.1 with no issues.

if you try running proftpd directly from the command line you might get a little more info about why it wont start. and of course check you log files for any errors.

Boot log indicates the service pure-ftpd was "done" which is why I don't understand why it's status is set to "unused".

I also tried proftpd which I configured using Webmin, but even that didn't work. Proftpd didn't even show up as a service when I was configuring which services should start-up on booting.

Here's a copy of my "pure-ftpd.conf" file.
