Cannot start KDE

This happened after logging of to change users during a winetools installation.. Error messages are as follows:

When attempting to start KDE:

$home directory (/root) is out of disk space. KDE is unable to start.

After acknowledging the error, and exiting KDE:

/usr/X11R6/bin/startx: line 133: cannot create temp file here for document: no such space left on device

Fatal server error: could not create lock file in /tmp/tx0-lock

Please consult x.org
wiki.x.org for help.

Went to the sites listed, and couldn't find anything useful. I'll check again anyway in a little while though. Thankyou for putting your knowledge on loan.

Check the permission of /tmp directory.
It should be 6755

Also check the disk space of the system.

Cheers

KDE (like all wm/Desktop's, I think) needs to write things to homedir. Login in textmode and free up some space.

The thing is, I was able to log in once (only once, tried before and after with no success) onto a user account... When I logged off I couldn't get back on though.

Ok, I realized the problem, and fixed it.

Unfortunately, it was just stupidity on my part. I didn't realize how full the Hard Disk was..

I deleted a directory I no longer needed (about 400 kb) which allowed me to actually start KDE, then from there I cleared out all my old music files from when my windows partition was down, plus a whole bunch of stuff I had deleted from the same directory after getting Windows back up. Total cleared space=19 GB. Thankyou again for your help... I don't know what I'd do without this forum, as there is nobody I know personally who can help me with Linux.
