Cannot send mail in Evolution 1.2

I just installed Red Hat Linux 9 and setup Evolution for my mail application. I can receive emails but cannot send. When I try to send an email I got the message "error while performing operation host lookup failed: stmp.hostname.net host not found". I use a substitute for the real hostname here. I finally figured that I entered "STMP" so I went to setting and edit the account, changing "STMP" to "SMTP" but I am still getting the same error message when I try to send an email. Is there a file that store this value some where on the system ?

Your help will be much appreciated.

It almost sounds like you do not have DHCP properly configured. Either that or you have another typo in your hostname. Assuming that you have the correct hostname, you should be able to send your mail.

See if you can ping the host "ping smtp.hostname.net" If that doesn't work, do either a "dig mx" or "nslookup" just to be certain that you do have the correct hostname. Do your web browsers work properly?

Give a bit more info, and I'm sure that we can get you going.
