Cannot record with Pulse + Sound Recorder in 10.04; CAN in 12.04...

I GREATLY prefer 10.04 to 12.04.

I cannot configure Pulse + Sound Recorder in 10.04, and I CAN do this in 12.04.

Can I integrate 12.04 settings INTO 10.04, to do recording?

If not, where do I start in 10.04 troubleshoot? (save the link-outs please; my cache has over 20 pages of unsuccessful search results).

Thanks there...
