cannot login to samba server from win client

on centos 6.4 server (samba server)
I setup basic share with Swat to /home/joemc
I created smbpasswd for joemc at cli.

At win 8 client I can see the samba server under Network.
When I click on it it brings up a login screen. Won;t let me login to server. using joemc id and pw created at server.
What do I need to do?

Is the window user a member of a domain?
Is the Samba server also a member of the same domain?

they are both members of workgroup= workgroup

When I do test parm at server it tells me the user joemc is flagged unavailable with no other errors noted. if I edit it to available yes and reload samba it goes back to available = no.
I guess this is related to original issue.
I don't know why it is unavailable.

home folder shares should be set up under a [Homes] section instead of being shared explicitly. you can verify the user is configured properly by creating a subfolder under /home/joemc and trying to share that. subfolders under the home folders don't share the same samba sharing issues as the Home folder itself.

Now, this might be a silly question, but did you add your user to samba and set a password?
