Cannot login after upgrading to kde 3.4, brings me back to login screen
 

Hello,

I am running Mandrake Linux 10.1. Everything was running fine until I decided to be bold as a newbie and upgrade to kde 3.4.

I downloaded the rpm file, telinit 3, urpmi kdebase.

After the install I rebooted and it brings me into the login screen. I have lots of users to choose from which is new. Rather than just my normal user admin I have about 15 more adminsu, root, mail etc.

I choose the normal two either admin or root type my password and hit enter and it makes the screen black and bring me straight back to the login screen. The only other two buttons are reboot and halt of which clicking either does nothing.

I am completly stuck can anyone direct me.

I've had no end of problems whenever I've tried updating kde, so I've stopped doing it. One piece of advice I received was that you need to renew the .kde and .qt folders in your home directory but that didn't seem to help last time I tried.

EDIT: The thread also tells you how to backtrack if necessary - of course, the method may required that you followed the recommended procedure for updating.
