Anyone know what this is? I added my yahoo account and when I try to log in I get 'unable to read' I can't find anything in the gaim website F.A.Q or documentation. I am using gaim 0.75

Thank-You

can you give a bit more information, eg: the network you are trying to access (AIM/MSN), maybe a logfile? Are you sure gaim has support for the network you are trying to access installed?

cheers

He mentioned that he is trying to connect to yahoo.

There are a number of places on the gaim website that point out that the current version cannot connect to the yahoo network because of a problem that is being addressed.

Did you see "http://gaim.sourceforge.net/" ? This is an ongoing issue.

I have actually experienced this issue on and off throughout the releases of gaim. I am curious if this is an issue of Yahoo trying to keep 3rd party applications from working...

Use the UNIX/Linux version of Yahoo! Messenger. gAIM is not very stable, especially when it comes to handling sounds and other such things

Hope this helps.....

yahoo support in gaim even in version 0.75 is very poor and there are some patches linked on their site that FIX the problem.

The only Messenger I've gotten Yahoo to work until now is Yahoo's official version for Linux. It's not packed with features, just the basics, but at least I was able to chat with Yahoo users, MSN, IRQ and all the others worked for Gaim and Kopete, but i always got the "Unable to Read Error" with Yahoo and it's Plugins. Today i just tried Ayttm for the heck of it, it also has never worked, but surprisingly , I was able to send/receive and log on to Yahoo. I haven't touched it or upgraded Ayttm , I have version 0.4.6-1 , so most likely Yahoo was doing something on their end to keep Ayttm from connecting the past few weeks. Glad its working though, hope it stays working for a while.

Currently using gaim 0.75, with full Yahoo support. Patch can be found at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...35&atid=300235 .

how do you apply the patches? Do you have to compile from source?
