Cannot install GAIM 0.71

Okay, so I'm trying to install GAIM 0.71. It installs okay but I get a message saying theres a missing protocol for MSN, and it cannot load the MSN plug-in. I'm running RedHat 9 I have tried everything thing that the GAIM website has suggested and nothing works. I even tried to install "GNUTLS" however it tells me that the "libgcrypt" file cannot be found or may be older.....I have the proper one installed in the right directory and all! I'm running Mozilla 1.4.1, and I set my ld.so.conf file to point to that directory so it will find the nss and nspr include files, however when I go to run it I still get the Message I have no MSN Plug-in. I've given up on the GAIM website everything they've tried to provide has decreased my confidence in them. Anyone else got any ideas..........?

do the command
./configure --help
you will have to show during the configure stage wher your nss and nspr incudes and libraries are. You may have to down load the includes. I could not find them on my redhat box.

what exactly are the names of the files I am looking for and do you remember a good place to download them

shanenin 10-30-2003 10:05 PM

my nss3 and nspr librarys were in my mozilla main directory /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4 it may also be under /usr/local/mozilla . the include files I copied from my slackware install. You could check under /includes maybe you have them. I could not find them though

make sure you run ./configure --help. it is very informative.

I've used the configure -help.

do you need both nss and nspr? I found the nss.h in my /usr/include directory

shanenin 10-30-2003 10:18 PM

yes you need both. I found both nss and nspr in this directory /usr/include/mozilla-1.4

you also need the libraries , nss, and nspr found in you main mozilla directory

did you see the section in ./configure --help where it shows you where to put the 4 locations

opafire 10-30-2003 10:27 PM

well, I do have the nss.h file but no nspr.h, I guess I'll have to find it

shanenin 10-30-2003 10:34 PM

nss and nspr are directories with many files in them. I am not sure nss.h is the same thing. If you look to download these, I think they would be you mozilla developmentals. also check your mandrake install it might have them.

I got it all straightened out last night, it works great now, the only thing I have to figure out now is why I can't auto-login to MSN and Yahoo at the same time. When I open GAIM it will login to MSN fine, but I will get a message that I have been logged out of Yahoo. When I open up the Accounts window I can log in to Yahoo fine and both Yahoo and MSN will be running.

Thanks for all your help shane. I found that if you go to the Red Hat Network Site(rhn.redhat.com) you can download the nss and nspr development libraries(in RPM form). After installing those it installed fine.
