Cannot install binary file due to changed MD5 checksum

Hello all. I am trying to install True Combat: Elite on my Fedora 14 machine, but when I try to install it, it tells me there is an error in the md5 checksum of the binary installer. Output:

[alex@sofy01 Desktop]$ sudo linux32 ./true.combat.elite_0.49-english.run
Verifying archive integrity...Error in MD5 checksums: 3723510cf281bc315a9009cd1ca4f0e4 is different from 7cd28449f1231ff747e08fb76d4615c3

This file was copied from a flash drive onto my hard drive. Is there any way to skip md5 checks because I really do not want to download this 200+ MB file again.

Thanks

Alex

Hi there,

Well if it is throwing md5 checksum error that means that the file is corrupt. md5 is basically used to check the data integrity to see if the downloaded data is correct or not.

The only option that I can think of is to re-download the file and then give it a try. I am not aware of any way to skip md5 check but even if you are able to skip that I doubt that the program will get install.

How should anyone be able to steal a free mod for a game?

@abrinister: T3RM1NVT0R is right, disabling the md5 check will only lead you to install a corrupt file, if it installs at all. Re-download it.

Gotcha. Thanks. BTW, True Combat: Elite is a free mod to a free game, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I downloaded off of idSoftware's ftp site.
