Cannot install Adobe Flash Player for Mozilla
Hi there and thanks for checking this.
You know, I use Mozilla as the default browser in my SUSE-10.1-32-bit installation (64-bit machine) and I whenever there is web content that requires Adobe Flash Player I get a message that there are missing plugins. I follow the instructions to install the Adobe Flash Player RPM but although it 'installs successfully' I still get this 'missing plugins' error message and I cannot play the videos. Any hints ? Is it a problem with my Mozilla installation folder you think ? How can I solve it ? All the best Ibex |
If it has nothing to do with 32/64-bit software/system, then it's odd. You can "install" Flash player by downloading the .tar.gz from Adobe's site, extracting it, locating the libflashplayer.so file and copying it to your Mozilla browser's plugins directory (~/.mozilla/plugins or something else, or system-wide similar directory). After a browser restart everything should be ok. The file should not be linked but copied to the directory, but apart from that I don't see what the problem is (unless it's about you having a 64-bit system and a 32-bit OS).

Curious. Are you installing the flash player as one user, and then running mozilla as another? (i.e using RPM as root, and logging in as 'ibex' to run Mozilla?)
What is the content of your ~/.mozilla/plugins directory? Is the libflashplayer.so file in there? And no, it shouldn't matter that you have a 64-bit machine and 32-bit OS installed. I do it all the time. |
I think that I read that flash doesn't support 64bit plugin based browsers yet and that users should download a 32 bit version of a browser to user the flash plugin. Maybe I'm just imagining this...I'll look for the source :)

libflashplayer.so WAS MISSING
Thank you so much guys.
For some reason there was no /.mozilla/plugins or ~/.mozilla/plugins directory. I created one and placed there the libflashplayer.so file and all works sweet. Ibex |
There should be a /lib/usr/firefox.xxx/plugins and a /lib/usr/mozilla/plugins, and the file should be either in them or linked to them from /usr/lib/flash-plugin.

When something works sweet as it is why to change it ?
Thank you for your help though.
