You need to use the whole address for MSN, I don't know about Yahoo!. How old is your version of Gaim anyway?

As for Kopete, you need to have the development packages installed.

Why on Earth are you using Red Hat 9 anyway? :/

You may also want to check out your firewall status...in a terminal type redhat-config-securitylevel. This will open up the firewall settings. Try temporarily disabling your firewall and connecting through Yahoo. If it still doesn't work, let us know. Otherwise we can configure your firewall to let that port out.

Fedora is a split off so to speak of redhat. When you install Fedora, they specify that they are not affiliated with RH. I personally use Fedora Core 3. It is a really easy to use, but also very powerful distro. To check the version of gaim, click on help in your buddy list then about.

Did it open any other window? Gaim by default does not list offline buddies or groups that dont contain a logged in buddy. Check you notification tray on your gnome-panel to see if there is a gaim logo. If there is just the little yellow guy standing there, then it is probably connected.

ok the red dash means it isnt connected...right click on that icon and select connect or signon or whatever sounds like that and try connecting again. If you would like to troubleshoot while talking to me, my aim sn is kg4ysy. Feel free to talk to me this way, it will prob be quicker. if it still isnt connecting to yahoo or anything, keep posting or aim me. We can get this working.

since you are using RH, try this in a terminal.........

yum remove gaim

after that completes, type the following........

yum install gaim

this should remove and then install gaim

if it gives you some crap about no key, type up2date in the terminal...this will open up2date and ask you about proxies...if u use one, type it here, otherwise click next...it will then ask you to install a key...

give this a shot and see if it works
