cannot boot with grub
 

Hi

Over the past 3 weeks I have installed the following distros
- Simplymepis 3.3
-Xandros OC 301
- Knoppix 3.8.2
and they have all reported the same grub error;
Loading stage 1.5
error 18 and stopped booting.
However, Mandrake 10 official loads like a dream.
Does Mandrake use a different boot loader, Lilo?
If it is a question of using Lilo rather than grub is it possible to use it with the above distros
My system is pretty old AMD K2 500, 10 g harddrive.

By default Mandriva uses Lilo, but has the option to install grub as the bootloader.
