Can YUM Run Safely On FC2 Server?

Running an FC2 Server with live websites and databases. I'd like to run YUM. Is this a good idea or will my running processes tank out?

i ran yum no problem on this machine, FC2.. i was able to run the new version, then later it crashed loading a usb drive, hasnt worked since, but yum worked fine as far as i know.
