Question Can someone explain me what ldconfig do?

I'm tweaking my system, and i'm asking myself if i can put this service in the halt/reboot script, 'cause it takes time to load at startup . I found some man pages, but i don't understand if it's really needed at boot. And i don't want to do things i don't understand.
Thanx.

It updates the shared library links, etc. You can safely remove it. I'll tend to only run it after installing some software on my system, but you can safely remove it at boot time.
