Can not login via kdegreet

I have Mephis linux and I am unable to log in via kdegreet, it crashes without any useful info. I have to log in via console login.
Does anyone have any idea of how to how to solve this ?
I have installed the latest version of Kde.
This is not such a problem for me, but my wife can not log in via console.

Another question now when I startx I get gnome, how do I change my default to get kde ?

I have just found the kdm.log
Code:
********************************************************************************Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
(i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the
daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which
file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*.********************************************************************************

So, did you "Run 'mkfontdir' on \"/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/CID\"?"

And, more germaine, why are you using the pre-release version?

To answer your questions 1) No and 2) That is what came with the distro. I will upgrade it and see what happens.
