can not find the scsi hard disk
Dear friends
Our group bought a dell precision 690, but when i install the red hat enterprise ws 4, the sytem gives the promt that it can not find any hard disk, so what should i do! I find a driver in a driver cd ,but the driver for the scsi is in the rpm format , then how can i install it! regards |
you'll need to extract the files from the RPM ...
I don't know if this link will work but go here: http://supportapj.dell.com/support/d...s=LIN4&osl=EN# Alternatively go to dell.com select Desktop, select support, select download, tell it your make and model, pick your download and make a driver disk. Start the linux install as 'linux dd' ... |

You have not installed RHEL WS4, because the installer could not find a hard drive to install it to. The hard drive you have is an SCSI drive. The computer is this one? Are you sure the drive is not SATA or SAS? Have you seen this thread... or this one? |
Thank you for your response!
I am wrong, i have scrutinized my dell workstation, i am confused by the content in the bios. I am not sure about which kine of hard drive it has. I know it has two drive, each has a capacity of 250G. it has a chip named something like "LSI logic" I am still in trouble. Regards |

I would guess your using SATA but the Precision 690s are capable of either SAS (Serial Attachted SCSI) or SATA. Dell supports RHEL WS and should work out of the box. A quick google didn't find anything. What version of RH are you running 64Bit?
I believe it is the LSI 1068 chipset. Have you contacted Dell? |
Dear michaelk
I use Rh enterprise ws version 4. I am sure that we have two 250G sata, but which controller should i dowload? How can i know whether the hard drives have been make up a RAID 0 system. Regards |
Make sure the drive is not set to compatibility mode, but normal (in the bios).
