I advise NOT to use "Microsoft Virtual PC"...
WHY?
Not because I don't like Microsoft ("In world without fences and walls, who needs
Gates and
Windows?"

), but because VMWare will be more flexible.
You can install VMware Player for free on Windows or Linux, so you decide whether you use Linux on Windows or Windows on Linux.
VMware Player is for free and you find some prepared images here:
http://isv-image.ubuntu.com/vmware/
If you want to prepare VMware machine by yourself, you can do it with VMware Server (for free!)
