Can I Use 8 Bit Color Depth?

Since I've had good success in speeding up ubuntu when I changed the color depth from 24 bit to 16 bit, do you guys think my system will speed up even more if I reduce it to 8 bit? I want to try this to see.

Sure - though you may not notice the difference. Why not just try it and see, like you want to, then tell us how it went?

Hi, simon. Ok, 8 bit looks horrible. Do you think it's safe to set it at 12 bits?

Ah... I meant you may not notice the speed difference. 8-bit graphics is, indeed, nasty. I've never heard of 12-bit color.. when fiddling xorg.conf, keep a working one as a backup.
