Can I set OpenOffice Writer not to use the system font?

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Using Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) on an IBM Thinkpad laptop.

Under System > Preferences > Fonts, I have my system fonts set to look like Windows (Verdana 8, in monochrome mode). This works great for just about everything, but when I open anything in OpenOffice.org Writer, the monochrome fonts look horrible. Is there a way to tell Writer not to use the default system fonts?

Hmm... I scanned that page but I didn't see anything directly related to what I am trying to do (but I am still fairly new to Linux, so I might just have missed it).

All I want to do is change the way fonts are displayed in OpenOffice.org Writer... more specifically, I want those fonts to be smoothed instead of monochrome. Just Writer... I like the monocrome look everywhere else.

Hmm... that looked very promising, but in the end it didn't quite have what I needed. The problem seems to be when I set my Gnome to Tahoma 8pt with 'best shape' rendering, it doesn't do it in the nice pixilated Windows style as shown in the screenshots on that page, but still has lots of 'dirty' grey edges. Thanks for the link though... some stuff on there looks very interesting.

Any other ideas?

Known bug

You're experiencing a known bug. The only fix I could find was to upgrade to OpenOffice.org 2.10 by removing all openoffice.org packages and downloading the 2.10 installer from the OpenOffice.org Web site.
