Can i send files, share photos, use audibles, avatars, etc. on Gaim?

Hi. Since i use linux and FreeBSD, Gaim has always been my favorite chat client program. It's clean and convenient. But recently it has been a lil difficult for me. I and my friends often need to transfer files and photos while chatting, and sometimes they find it inconvenient to chat with me, b/c i have to reboot into windows.

Also, the first time somebody sent me an audible was when i was using Gaim. I saw nothing but a chain of Chinese, :D. I asked him what the hell he did, because i couldnt read Chinese, lol. He told me just to look at the pix, ignoring the lines. I even thought he meant that those Chinese symbols made up some kind of pix, and tried to look and figure it out . There was a time when people sent me audibles and i couldnt understand what they were doing, lol.

In addition, i want to have an avatar when i chat. Could that be possible?

Thank you very much :)

The problems your describing are problems that existed with old versions of GAIM. I have the newest GAIM installed on my fedora machine right now and I can send and receive files easily. The only problem is that you can't strait up do a DC unless your sending a picture, sometimes I want to send a large body of text and need to DC in order to do that, and I can't because GAIM only sets up a DC when sending pictures or sounds. Other than that, just upgrade.

yeah, sending files works about 80% of the time... Not much you can do...
