Can anyone point me to good documentation on installing Gnome from scratch...

I have a RHEL machine that I am working with, and we had chosen not to install XWindows. I am now trying to get our UPS shutdown software to work with the system, only to discover that it requires a gui installer. I am now trying to install XWindows after the fact, and I hope to use Gnome with it.

Can anyone point me to some quality documentation that will discuss the configuration files involved, and what their format should be?

Thanks.
