Can't change boot loader from GRUB to LILO

"No kernel packages were installed on your system. Your boot loader configuration will not be changed."

This is the error I get when I try to change the boot loader in RH8, booting from the CD. I need to change my boot loader to LILO because of USB keybpard recognition problems with GRUB, and after not finding a solution to that problem, the running straight into this one, I am more than a little bit frustrated. Has anyone else experienced this problem before? Is there any other way to install LILO?

if you do not have an /etc/lilo.conf, copy it from /etc/lilo.conf.anaconda.

Run
#lilo -t -v
to make sure lilo finds everything in place. Finally run

#lilo

to overwrite the MBR.

What are the -t and -v parameters for running #lilo from the command line?

And what exactly does running it do?

When I get home I'll post the .conf files. If I double click on them will they automatically open in their appropriate viewing/text editing program?

Sorry if my questions are stupid. If I can ever get Linux running decently, I hope to learn a lot more.
