Can't access Apache remotely

OK heres the scoop. I have a slack 10.1 box running apache2 now when i type in localhost i see my server and its files just fine. Now the problee is I have no idea how to configure apache so anyone else can see it. Using my ip address doesn't work and returns a connection timeout error. I originally thought this was because i was behind a router that didnt allow port forwarding but it turns out it also doesnt work when im plugged staright into the modem. Just for an overview of my net connect I use verizon dsl. My impression is that apache should just work with the ip address without any other configuration but maybe im wrong any help would be great cause this is drivng me nuts. Also in the case of I do need to do more configuration than if anyone knows of a tutorial or something that would answer my question that would be great as well.

There are a few possible reasons..

1. You have a firewall that blocks port 80. This is the most likely situation since you can access fine from localhost. Try to access without a firewall / create a rule that allows port 80 from everywhere..

2. You have restricted access to apache in some of the following places:
/etc/inetd.conf
/etc/hosts.[allow|deny]
/etc/apache/httpd.conf

Undo the restriction / widen it

3. your ISP blocks port 80. This is another likely situation..
You can try getting aroun by moving apache to some other non-standard port.

1. for a firewall is sue firstarter to control it and I had it turned off.

2.Would I have restricted access on a default install?

3.How would I find out that my isp blocks port 80 so I can save myself alot of grief? I use verizon dsl for internet by the way.

Couple more questions:

1) Do you have static or dynamic IP assigned by Verizon? (Probably not an issue here...)
2) Can you ping your IP from the Internet, without port specification?

1. I have adynamic ip address.
2. Interesting point when i run ifconfig and look at the ppp0 ip address comes up as 141.154.188.33 but when i go to something like whatsmyip.com it comes up as 151.203.144.81. When i ping the first one it works fine but when i ping the second one I get either redirect host next hop or desitnation host unreachable.

When I use ifconfig. It only report my NIC and loopback. I setup PPPOe using my linksys router.
