Can't write Password to get to desktop after Initial Installation of SuSe 8.2

I just installed SuSe 8.2 on a desktop with a P2 350mhz, 128 Ram, and 10g HD.

During the installation it asked me for a user name and password.

After the first boot, a user name/password screen appeared. It let me write the user name, but when i tabbed to the Password, I could not write the password into the box using my keyboard.

I am stuck at the screen, unable to get to the desktop.

What could be wrong with the screen? How do I get passed it? How do i disable the need to go to that screen on each boot up.
