Can't view DVD's

I'm using Ubuntu here, recently started using it as my desktop operating system.

I seem to have trouble viewing dvds. I've tried with ogle, mplayer and xine, and they all give me the same error message which is:

MPLAYER:
Playing dvd://1.
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.5 for DVD access
Reading disc structure, please wait...
libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO.
Can't open VMG info!

XINE:
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.5 for DVD access
libdvdnav:DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFindFile /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO failed
libdvdnav:DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFindFile /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.BUP failed
libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO.

I have the w32 codecs installed, as well as libdvdcss2 and a few other libraries.

Am I doing anything wrong here?

Thanks.

did you tried only a single dvd media or different ones?

If you were to search the boards you would find many threads mentioning that you need libdvdcss and libdvdnav, and that you need to add a repository to adept or synaptec and then you can easily install it.

You need to add libdvdnav and ubuntu appears to offer two versions of it - I added both to a workstation on which I am reevaluating ubuntu. It plays most DVDs just fine. :) (I had a problem with one DVD - The Nutty Professor with Jerry Lewis)
