Question Can't unmaximise window in Fedora MATE

Hello,

I'm running Fedora 22 (kernel 4.3.4-200.fc22.x86_64 x86_64) with MATE 1.12.1 plus Compiz.

Today I double clicked on the title bar of my Thunderbird window, which seemed to maximise the window to fill the entire screen, but even the window title bar and the MATE panel disappeared. I had to switch to another desktop workspace to make the panel appear, but I can't figure out how to unmaximise that Thunderbird window. Restarting Thunderbird didn't help since it still starts in the maximised state. This is also strange because normally when I maximise a window by double clicking its title, I don't lose the title bar! Can anyone help? Thanks!

I just tried that, and it showed a little menu on the top left corner of the screen.

The Maximise, Move, and Resize items were greyed out and unclickable. The Minimise and Move Titlebar Onscreen options were clickable but clicking the Move Titlebar Onscreen option didn't do anything....

Is there something else I can try??? Thanks!

I have also an "unmaximize" option with a key: Ctrl-Super-Down. You may try to check ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/X*log to find something related.

Thank you for your quick replies! I tried Ctrl-Super-Down but it didn't do anything. As for the X related files they all look very cryptic and I don't see anything obviously related to Thunderbird.....

did you try changing your theme so you can get your little icons back that show max/min/close?
or
Alt+right Mouse Button bottom right conner then move it up diagonally inwards

Right now, I don't even see the edge of the window that usually shows up in other windows. The Thunderbird window just looks so maximised that even the titlebar and window edges disappear..... However, I'll try changing themes on Monday and see what happens...

you do not have to actually grab the corner just within the general area, that in most (all of mine) desktops allows one to resize the window reguardless of the state it is in.

just hold down the left Alt key while placing your mouse arrow in the general area of the corrner then hold both down while moving your mouse to resize the window. If you place the arrow on or near the edges it moves the window edge to srink the window.

this abiltiy is used for borderless windows, but still works with windows with borders.

that is to help you get control over that borderless window, why it did what it did I do not know.

but, by what you say it may have maximised past the size of your screen, therefore try the alt+mouse first. you can also use this method to move the window too, it all depends on window size/state and mouse placement.

it varies because this over rides the maximum button/state of the window, depending on what desktop it is being used in is also a factor in over all behavior of the this method. It is a method you have to play around with it to get a better understanding of it.

if nothing else works then I'd suggest looking for its config files seeing what kind it uses then read through it, or them to see if you can find a setting you can modify manually.
