I was downloading MandrakeLinux 10.1 Power Pack DVD version using CuteFTP XP build 50.6.10.2 and had to reboot the computer during the download but now I can't resume the download. The Resume button is grayed out. I had already downloaded over 832 MB of this file before the disconnect.
I did notice that at the start of the download, CuteFTP falsly indicated that the file was only 373,062 KB in size and the progress indicator acted accordingly. And after I downloaded the 373,062 KB, CuteFTP automatically started downloading the rest of the file while the progress indicator falsley said the download was finished. Now when I try to resume the file from the 832 MB already downloaded, Cute FTP once more says that the file is only 373,062 KB in size and I believe this quirk is a possible reason why I can't resume the download.
Is there a workaround that will enable me to resume the download from the point where I was disconnected which was at 832 MB?
Have no experience with CuteFTP, but just maybe it uses wget functions. Can you see if it created a file named [your-iso-image-name].iso.part ? In that case, open a terminal, cd to the directory the part is in and try "wget -c ftp://[location-of-iso]
CuteFTP is a closed source commercial Windows program.
I highly doubt it uses the functions of the open-source wget program.
I highly doubt parent poster will find a way to resume the download, in my adventures on windows, i found cuteftp to be highly unreliable. Not like gftp is any better though
Thanks for the replys. Yes, CuteFTP is a Windows based program and I am downloading in Windows.
I did solve my problem, however, by using another Windows based download manager, called AbsoluteFTP. AbsoluteFTP will not only indicate the proper file size but will also allow me to resume the partial download that I started with CuteFTP last week. AbsoluteFTP is only a trial version and fully functional for 30 days and I just might purchase it later.
Just for the record, I have dual boot computer with two partitions, MandrakeLinux 9.2 is on the 15 gig partition and Windows XP is on the 45 gig partition. I intend to upgrade to MandrakeLinux 10.1 and start using that as my main OS again. I have a tendency to use Linux for a while, then Windows, then Linux, etc.
Linux is more fun to work with since it shows what goes on behind the scenes where Windows hides all that with a graphical interface. Also, Linux is more oriented towards programmers, another plus. To me, dual boot with Windows/Linux is the only way to go. But that's just me.
