Can't reinstall CUPS after removing ESP Print Pro
Hi all,
I used CUPS for few months on a Debian machine (about 5 months ago). Since I had formatting problems with a big HP plotter (DJ1050) I turned to the company that develops CUPS (ESP) for help. I had to install their software but after 3 Months of trying they didn't manage to solve my problem :-/ Today I tried to uninstall their software so I could use CUPS again (since I only had a trial licenses). The problem is: I can't reinstall CUPS! What did I try? 1.apt-get install cupsys ---> than I get: Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done The following extra packages will be installed: libcupsimage2 libcupsys2-gnutls10 Suggested packages: cupsys-bsd cupsys-driver-gimpprint foomatic-bin foomatic-filters-ppds xpdf-korean xpdf-japanese xpdf-chinese-traditional xpdf-chinese-simplified cups-pdf hplip Recommended packages: gs-esp cupsys-client smbclient The following packages will be REMOVED: printpro-abdick printpro-apollo printpro-autologic printpro-brother printpro-calcomp printpro-colossal printpro-compaq printpro-crosfield printpro-cyclone printpro-dataproducts printpro-digital printpro-dupont printpro-genicom printpro-hitachi printpro-indigo printpro-infotec printpro-kyocera printpro-laserpress printpro-lexmark printpro-linotronic printpro-majestik printpro-minolta printpro-minoltaqms printpro-mitsubishi printpro-monotype printpro-panasonic printpro-panther printpro-pictura printpro-platemaker printpro-samsung printpro-scitex printpro-screen printpro-shinko printpro-splash printpro-tektronix printpro-typhoon printpro-unisys printpro-varityper The following NEW packages will be installed: cupsys libcupsimage2 libcupsys2-gnutls10 0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 38 to remove and 0 not upgraded. 38 not fully installed or removed. Need to get 0B/9086kB of archives. After unpacking 16.7MB of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue? [Y/n] when I coose Y I get: Removing printpro-varityper ... /etc/init.d/cups: line 168: /usr/sbin/cupsd: No such file or directory cups: unable to restart scheduler. dpkg: error processing printpro-varityper (--remove): subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: printpro-abdick printpro-apollo printpro-autologic printpro-brother printpro-calcomp printpro-colossal printpro-compaq printpro-crosfield printpro-cyclone printpro-dataproducts printpro-digital printpro-dupont printpro-genicom printpro-hitachi printpro-indigo printpro-infotec printpro-kyocera printpro-laserpress printpro-lexmark printpro-linotronic printpro-majestik printpro-minolta printpro-minoltaqms printpro-mitsubishi printpro-monotype printpro-panasonic printpro-panther printpro-pictura printpro-platemaker printpro-samsung printpro-scitex printpro-screen printpro-shinko printpro-splash printpro-tektronix printpro-typhoon printpro-unisys printpro-varityper E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) I've shortened the messege but it is the same for all packages 2. Than I tried: apt-get -f install but I get the same messege 3. Than I tought I should delete the packages by my own: dpkg --remove printpro-unisys got the same error here too... So my questions: 1. What is wrong? 2. How can I install CUPS again?? Many thanks for any tips! Dekers |
if I try to open usr/sbin/cupsd with winSCP I get the following:
Cannot open remote file '/usr/sbin/cupsd'. No such file or directory. Error code: 2 Error message from server: No such file Request code: 3 But I can see the file... wait... I can see it is a link to a different file but it has a red arrow instead of the normal white arrow... he? Dekers |
it seems to me like cupsd is simply missing...
Because of that apt-get fails to remove some packages before the installation. I tried it with the -f (fix-broken) flag but nothing there :( Anyone got an idea? Dekers |
this is what I get if I run apt-cache show printpro-unisys:
ztlx05:~# apt-cache show printpro-unisys Package: printpro-unisys Status: deinstall ok half-installed Maintainer: Easy Software Products Architecture: i386 Version: 4.5.10 Config-Version: 4.5.10 Depends: printpro Description: ESP Print Pro Copyright: 1993-2005 by Easy Software Products, All Rights Reserved. UNISYS printer drivers so is it half-uninstalled?? Dekers |
The /usr/sbin/cupsd file is linked to the file 'cupsd-nopam'
Could one of you maybe look to which file his cupsd file is pointing? Maybe I could re-point the link the the correct file in case uninstalling stuff messed up the link... Thas would be great! Thanks, Dekers |
when I run 'locate cup' I find cupsd-nopam in /usr/sbin/ but when I go there - I can't find any trace to this file. When is wrong here??
