can't mount truecrypt volume on FC4

Howdy,

truecrypt version 4.2a
kernel version 2.6.17-1.2141_FC4

so I installed truecrypt with an rpm and created a volume ('truecrypt -c'), answering the questions as prompted. no matter how I try to mount the volume I get the following:

truecrypt: No free loopback device available for file-hosted volume

did a little googling and learned a little about loopback devices and such, so I tried adding this line to my /etc/modprobe.conf file:

options loop max_loop=16

and restarted - but same thing.

any help is appreciated, but specifically:

- how do I figure out if the loopback module is installed or it's compiled into the kernel?
- simple definition of what loopbacks are/do?
- how does one add a loopback device on FC4

thanks!
