can't locate object method "path" via package "Autom4te::Request" at/usr/bin/autom4te

Recently i install a package
when i input the command make and make install
the above error appear,
who can help me to solve this problem
will i need to upgrade autoconf as well as other autotools?
my host os is redhead9.0-linux 2.4.20-8,
