can't install Perl Mail::Sendmail

I'm trying to install the Perl Sendmail module from CPAN, on top of a pretty vanilla Redhat 7.1 installation. After downloading the RPM, I get the following when I try to install it:

[root@jrmlinux /root]# rpm -ivh perl-Mail-Sendmail-0.77-6.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
perl >= 5.00503 is needed by perl-Mail-Sendmail-0.77-6

[root@jrmlinux /root]# perl -v

This is perl, v5.6.0 built for i386-linux
[...]

Any clues? I tried running RPM with the --force flag, but still got the failed dependency message.

Thanks,
Jim Miller
