Angry Can't get Xcdroast to work! Frustrated! Plz Help!

I wanted to burn an ISO file to a cd, and this is what happened:

Calling: /usr/lib/xcdroast-0.98/bin/xcdrwrap CDRECORD dev= "/dev/cdrom1" gracetime=2 fs=4096k driveropts=burnfree -v -useinfo speed=16 -dao -eject -pad -data "/home/matt/Temporary Storage/KNOPPIX_V3.6-2004-08-16-EN.iso" ...

cdrecord: Cannot allocate memory. WARNING: Cannot do mlockall(2).
cdrecord: WARNING: This causes a high risk for buffer underruns.
cdrecord: Operation not permitted. WARNING: Cannot set RR-scheduler
cdrecord: Permission denied. WARNING: Cannot set priority using setpriority().
cdrecord: WARNING: This causes a high risk for buffer underruns.
scsidev: '/dev/cdrom1'
devname: '/dev/cdrom1'
scsibus: -2 target: -2 lun: -2
Linux sg driver version: 3.5.27
cdrecord: Warning: using inofficial libscg transport code version (schily - Red Hat-scsi-linux-sg.c-1.83-RH '@(#)scsi-linux-sg.c 1.83 04/05/20 Copyright 1997 J. Schilling').
SCSI buffer size: 64512
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01-dvd (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: Drive does not support SAO recording.
Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version with DVD support
cdrecord: Illegal write mode for this drive.
Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original.

Do you know how I can fix this problem? I'm new to linux, so a step by step explanation would be appreciated. This is the third cd burning program I've tried, and I havent been able to get any of them to work for me thus far.

Check ur /etc/fstab to see if you mounted the Cd-writer as read-only[ro].
If so change it to red-write [rw] and see if it works..

That won't make a difference - the CD drive is not mounted when writing takes place as the CD contains no filesystem at the time.

More likely is that he's trying to write in SAO mode which is not supported by the drive. Try changing the write mode to either DAO or TAO (Disc At Once or Track At Once). Oh, and use CD-RW...then at least you can try again if it fails!

The output that I put on my first post was the result of DAO mode. I've tried TAO mode as well with the same result. (Still have yet to try the /etc/fstab code, I'll report again when I get that done). Thx for the input guys!

If ur running a 2.6.8.1 kernel there is a bug, which makes it recognize CD-RW as CD-R device. I believe there is a patch out there.Try googling a bit..

Ok, I'll try to find a patch for that, but would booting up an older kernel version work too? Such as 2.4?

It so happens that I only have kernel versions 2.6.81 and 2.6.51
I'll try 2.6.51 and see if that maybe works, but I have a feeling that it probably wont...
