Unhappy Can't get splashy working.

Hey all. I'm running Debian Sid, 2.6.26-1-686. I installed splashy thru apt, and added vga=791 splash to the kernel command line in grub (legacy-sid).

The framebuffer won't start up. Once the system is loaded, I can go in and see that /dev/fb0 does in fact exist, but I get no tux logo at boot, all it says is that Screen [0x]317 not available, please select a screen mode. (or something to that extent)

I have installed the kernel headers and checked the /usr/src/linux/.config and found:
Code:
# grep VESA .config
CONFIG_FB_UVESA=m
CONFIG_FB_VESA=y
So it seems that vesafb is enabled in the kernel, but it wont show me the tux! or run splasy, it says splashy cannot conenct to fb, and the crashes.

I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5200, with proprietary drivers, but I believe those aren't loaded until x starts.

I've also installed v86d and klibc to try and use the uvesafb module, but that doesn't work either, (with: video=uvesafb:1024x768-32 splash) appended to the kernel command line.

Please help, and thanks you guys ^_^

i have a little more information.

I reinstalled the 2.6.24 kernel on it, and the framebuffer works flawlessly, just add vga=791 splash and it works. so that means its a problem with the 2.6.26 kernel. the config file says FB_VESA=Y, but i'm thinking either the kernel was compiled without it (seems unlikely as the config in the dist. source pkg says otherwise), or its not supported or correctly implemented in the 2.6.26 kernel.
