Question Can't get local host after installing Apache

I installed Apache httpd-2.0.52 on my system as a step toward installing ez publish. I also installed all the recommended dependencies. I am fairly new at this so it is certainly possible that I made a mistake. But I should, as I understand it, be able to get the program to respond when I type in a request for my server (konquerer) to give me the localhost. It doesn't do this. I have checked and it is supposed to be running. What might the possible causes of this be???

I have a very similiar problem. Please post the solution here if you find it. I will too. But unfortunately I really don't know what's wrong.

Are any error codes returned? Does konquerer just sit there or what?

Check your apache error log, it should shed some light on the problem.

Responding to the last two posts, here is what I came up with. The security section of the "administer your system" program on my Mandrake system says that the no firewall selection was checked. However, my search for "apache" in the logs came up with the following:

Sys log:
Oct 24 12:04:08 opnetworks-66 drakfirewall[10404]: running: /bin/rpm -q --qf %{name} apache apache-mod_perl boa bind openssh-server ftp-server-krb5 wu-ftpd proftpd pure-ftpd sendmail postfix qmail imap courier-imap-pop telnet-server-krb5 samba-server cups

Authentication:

Oct 23 07:24:21 opnetworks-66 sshd[3270]: Failed password for illegal user apache from ::ffff:80.53.84.18 port 24135 ssh2

User:

I am not sure how to read all this but I guess it looks like a "drakefirewall" is running. If this might be the problem, how would I turn it off?
