Hi. I can't seem to get Kmail to connect to local host. As far as I know I have set up everything correctly. I do not have any problems with internet . In my network settings, I have smtp for sending and pop for recieving. I can't send or recieve. In my identities I have Default (Default) [my user name] [my email address]. There error message I get is below. Any advice? I have never set up windows outlook express, and don't have windows running at the moment.

Did you fill in your smtp and pop server address? For example I have comcast and my smtp is smtp.comcast.net port 25 and pop is mail.comcast.net port 110.

If Kmail asked me for that I would have given it that info. What file contains that information that I have to relay to kmail. I tried domainhost and got 0. Coult you just tell me what to type and I will understand it tommorow as I am very tired. I dont mean to sound rude but I have had a very bad day.

So you have a SMTP server running? Sendmail? Exim? Qmail? Postfix?

Start Kmail.
Click on the Settings menu, and click on Configure Kmail.
In the left pane of the dialog box, click on Network.
You will see two tab at the top: Sending and Receiving.
Click on Sending to see a list of your outgoing accounts. Highlight an account, then
click on Modify to see the dialog box in which you enter account information.
Then, do the same with Receiving.

Okay I understand what the problem is, Kmail did not allow me to select what server I wanted to use, so I prosumed that the server was included in my installation. Do I really need an extra box to get mail server installed?

Fixed it. For anyone having the same problem go to system setting the go to the network tab and enter this information sendmail for recieving and mail dir for recieving

I tried to get postfix working along time ago but I never turn it on anymore. Could that be what my problem is? If so, how can I fix this?

I have updated to KDE3.3.2 and cannot get kmail to send. I have the same configuration info re: address, smtp and pop provider, port is 25. I get a message that kmail cannot connect to host. One issue might be security but I have checked what host supports plus tried all the other combinations! I am using the identical settings for my other mail apps (Apple mail, evolution, mozilla). I want to pare this down to one app, preferably kmail as it works well with other kde apps like korganizer, addressbook, knode, kontact, and on and on. Evolution is a pain as I can't even get Vcards imported.
