can't find/install libxv1
Hi,
I recently reinstalled libranet and tried to do apt-get update, upgrade, but it won't let me, because libxv1 won't install. I tried the same with installing gaim, but I get: dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/libxv1_4.3.0-7_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) -f install didnt work, and I couldn't find the file in synaptic...any ideas? Thanx Dswissmiss |
Did you try downloading the libxv1 from http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/s...ll&release=all and using kpackage to install the deb file? That's how I got libxv1. Once you get that installed, you should then be able to type apt-get -f install to get all the files installed that wouldn't install before.

Thank you...but I still get this error
Unpacking libxv1 (from //tmp/libxv1_4.3.0-7_i386.deb) ... dpkg: error processing //tmp/libxv1_4.3.0-7_i386.deb (--install): trying to overwrite `/usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.so.1.0', which is also in package xlibs dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) Errors were encountered while processing: //tmp/libxv1_4.3.0-7_i386.deb RESULT=1 |
Okay, log out and re login as root. Rename /usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.so.1.0 to libXv.so.1.0.old, then try apt-get -f install and see if it will install libxv1 for you. I forgot that I also had to rename the file before libxv1 would install.

Nautilus doesn't even work anymore, I just get the tab and location bar, but can't see any icons. I used the emelFM filemanager to search for libxv.so... but it didnt exist. Any ideas? (and how do I get nautilus to work again :( )
thank you |
For anyone following this thread the answer is here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...248#post815248
I'm still unsure about nautilus though, I'll check and see if it works after upgrading everything |
