I'm having trouble using VNC to connect from a Linux box to a Windows box. Even when connecting from Windows to Windows it isn't working.
I have VNC installed on the Linux box and the Windows box. Every time I try to connect it says that it cannot connect and throws an error (on Windows side) of 10060. I googled it, and found that it was possibly because it was not allowed through the firewall. In fact, it was not made as an exception. I made it one, no problem there. Tried to connect again, and it would not work. I tried just typing in the IP address, did not work. I tried it with the IP address and a port number (in this case, default port 5900).
I tried doing the same from a Windows to Windows connection and it throws the same error. NOt sure why. This is weird because I did this ONCE a while back. Going from my computer (Linux) to a friends computer(Windows) and it worked without any configuration. I'm not sure what's different here other than I've reinstalled once or twice since then.
Can anyone help me troubleshoot this issue or point me to a good how-to? I've looked at other how-to's and they are all cut and dry. I follow them, yet it doesn't work.
Thanks,
Brandon

I didn't have the computer setup as a DMZ. Doing this solved the problem.
Thanks,
Brandon
edit: This worked when going from Windows-to-Windows. Now when I try to do it from Linux to Windows, it says "unable to resolve host by name: Resource temporarily unavailable (11)
Any ideas?

New symptom! When I try to connect to another computer, we'll call it computer B, it freezes up the entire computer. When I try to connect to computer A (the computer that I would like to work on) it just says the connection is closed.
Sorry. This is not my weekend. I'm an ass. I was tying in the IP address incorrectly. Vinagre still doesn't work, but VNC Viewer does. That does the job though. So, consider it solved.
I'm glad you got it working. I use VNC (tightVNC) over the LAN here at work, but for the occasional connection over the internet that requires GUI stuff I use NX. It's much faster and so far it's also stable. Best of all it travels through an SSH tunnel (I have run VNC over the tunnel but it's even slower that way).
