can't compile SDL_ttf

When I try to compile SDL_ttf-2.0.8, I get the error:
"can't find freetype/internal/ftobjs.h No such file or directory". I configured it with:
--with-freetype-prefix=/usr/local/freetype-2.3.5
--prefix=/usr/local/SDL_ttf-2.0.8
I then checked the freetype directory tree for this ftobjs.h but didn't find it. I didn't even find the directory internal. I then installed freetype-1.3.1 and looked for ftobjs.h and still found nothing. Anyone know a solution to this?

Sounds like something is wrong with your FreeType installation. What is the output of

Code:

freetype-config --cflags

That should return the base directory for freetype/internal/ftobjs.h.
