Can't compile MPlayer statically.

I just downloaded MPlayer v1.0pre2 source from Mplayerhq and i run the configure script as as:

./configure --enable-static

That all works just fine. The problem is when I run 'make' after the configure. It just doesn't work.

I will post log info up here if needed with the exact error and what not. But first i want to know if running the configure like i do is correct and if MPlayer can be compiled as a static binary?

Did the directions tell you to link statically? That is what you are trying to do. It seems a little unusual.

It's not unusual people create static binary's all the time.
