Can't change language (Gnome/FC3)

I'm trying to change the input language, so I can use Japanese, but I'm not getting anywhere. I've tried going to Applications -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Layout and adding Japanese, but whenever I click "Add" for Japanese or any other layout, I get several windows popping up telling me there's an error:

Code:
Error activating XKB configuration.
Probably internal X server problem.

X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
60801000

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/xkb
I've also tried adding an InputMethod Switcher to the Gnome Panel, and then going to "Add or Remove...(Z)" but the list is empty. Anybody have some ideas?

RE: Can't change language (Gnome/FC3)

I have exactly the same problem... It would be great if somebody could help both of us!

I know the appropriate packages are installed... I chose Japanese input when I did the original installation... just can't get those apps to work!

RE: Can't change language (Gnome/FC3)

I'm going to answer my own question, here... After asking the same question as in the original posting, I stumbled upon someone else's link to the following FAQ: http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/i18n/iiimf-faq.html

As recommended in the FAQ, issuing the following commands corrected the problem for me:

$ mkdir ~/.xinput.d
$ ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/iiimf ~/.xinput.d/default

It's not a very pretty solution, however... This should work out-of-the-box IMHO. Anyway, once it does start working, the functionality of the applet is quite nice.
