Can't burn second CD in K3B Suse 9.2 pro

Hi everyone!

I am wandering if I am not the only one with a weird CD burning problem on Suse 9.2 pro. I use K3B (with cdrecord and cdrdao that came with Suse). After I boot up my PC, I can burn one iso image just fine, but I am unable to burn any more uless I reboot my PC. Unmounting or remounting the drive doesn't help. Switching between cdrdao and cdrecord doesn't help either.

I think this the problem has to do something with the specifics of Suse packaging (cdrecord say "...Suse publish bastardized and defective variants of cdrtools"). I tried compiling cdrtools but I ran into some weird compile time errors.

you should post those complie time errors and maybe that will help someone better understand the problem to help you.

thanks for such a quick reply!

I just (half an hour ago) found the solution to the cdrtools compilation problem. It seems that the sources are "not ready" for the more recent kernels. The error was something about ld not finding lscg:
"/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lscg"

here is the patch http://lfs.securewebservices.co.uk/p...el_2.6-3.patch
but I had to change the sources by hand since I was trying to compile a newer version. Well, it worked. I also compiled cdrdao and k3b from the cvs tree (k3b needs jack-devel which doesn't come with Suse 9.2).

I can't say how it works now - I will test it more and then post my result in case someone else will find it useful. By now, burning iso images seems to be working with cdrdao (using k3b frontend). cdrecord (cdrtools package) produced a memory allocation error when I tried to burn an iso file.

... just an update, cdrdao seems to work fine. I mostly use this prog (from K3B) when dealing with burning CDs. cdrecord (cdtools) still doesn't really work - unpredictable and unreliable. I think I either have a hardware problem or cdrecord is still not really ready for the newere kernels (I use 2.6.8 smp).

If anyone has had a better experience with CD burning, please share it - I and perhaps somebody else would be most thankfull.
