Can't Access Samba Shares containind Special Characters

Hello to all

I recently upgraded to samba 3.0, and currently have it running as merely a file server. Post upgrade i decided to place some of my music collection onto a share on my linux box. Playback is sweet from my workstation.

I however, encountered a problem when i transfered some French music containing french symbols such as: é; è; within the spelling of the filenames. Within a terminal if i run ls in the directory, i see a strange garbled buch of characters. If i try to access the file and use Tab auto-complete the file is spelt out properly including all foreign characters. From windows the foreign characters and replaces by blocks and cannot be accessed because the Win32 Apps skip that character all together and see al file names Ophélia as Oph?lia.

Is this a linux issue, windows issue, or samba config issue?

Please help me sort out this problem as my playlist is nearing an end....

You can choose the default characterset used for filenames in smb.conf

It needs to match the characterset of the pcs accessing samba..
or just add French language support to them..

The UTF8 set was supposed to get around these problems, but it needs to be installed on both the server and the browsing pcs...

Attempted...but no luck

Some further instructions, if you don't mind
