".cam" webcam video -- is there a codec? Can I play it with xine, Mplayer, VLC, ...?

It seems that aMSN messenger logs webcam sessions, and saves them as video files with the file extension '.cam'. I can view them using aMSN's built-in player, but can't seem to get them to play using anything else. I'm not even sure if this is a standard format for webcams or anything. But if they are able to play within aMSN, there must be a way to view them in my media player of choice right? I have tried all of the mentioned players without success.

Edit: or could they be transcoded into something that these players do support?
