Calibre stopped working. Python2.7 problem?

I tried opening calibre this morning. I hadn't used it for a few weeks. It wouldn't open when called from a desktop shortcut so I ran calibre from the command line. I got this result:
Code:
~$ calibre
python2.7: /tmp/buildd/sip4-4.16.3+dfsg/siplib/siplib.c:8514: sip_api_can_convert_to_type: Assertion `(((td)->td_flags & 0x0007) == 0x0000) || (((td)->td_flags & 0x0007) == 0x0002)' failed.
Aborted
I'm running Debian Jessie with a KDE desktop and a 3.16-3.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 kernel. I've been running calibre for quite a while but this is the first time I've had a problem with it. I'm running version 2.2 of calibre installed via a Debian package. Any help greatly appreciated.

So I tried doing a bug report at the Calibre site and got a stern word from Kovid who told me to uninstall the package and install the binary from the Calibre site. I did that and now have a functional and functioning Calibre 2.3.

I guess I should file a bug report at the Debian site.
