Talking burning in Brasero, can see data DVD in mac/linux but not windows

Hi Everyone,

I'm not too sure if this is a hardware problem or a software problem but I am trying a DVD data writer for the first time on linux called Brasero.

I can see the data is burned successfully on the DVD+R and I can see it no problem on a Mac and a Linux machine however, if I insert it to a Windows 7 machine, Windows thinks its a blank disc waiting to be burned.

I need to have this DVD available cross platform and need to burn it on a linux machine.

Did anyone faced this problem before?
any recommendations?

thanks,

jjjj12212

agreed, from your description it could be either one.

My first suggestion would be to try on another Windows PC. Windows is so widespread that you shouldn't have trouble finding someone who would give your DVD a try. If it works on another Windows PC, it could mean that the DVD drive in your Windows box is past its golden age, but it could as well just be unable to read DVD+R. Remember that many drives have issues about the plus- oder minus-media. Many can deal with both, some only with one kind.

I don't know any issue which would cause Windows not to recognize a DVD at all.

Thanks for your response,

I tried it with another Windows machine and still didn't work.
I also burned the same data on a Mac on a DVD+R (same DVD batch that I used) and it worked on all OS.
I think this boils down the software since I do see that data burned on Mac and linux so it can't be the DVD drive, and proved that it can't be the DVDs as well (note I burned a couple since maybe that one DVD was bad but no luck).

Does anyone else know any good linux DVD writers for Gnome? does it work on all OS?

thanks,

Many think it's the best...

You should be able to install the KDE burning program, K3b.

You then hope that the problem was Brasero and that your troubles will have gone away. If not, you might try using a different brand of DVD blanks. Otherwise, solving your problem may require a new CD/DVD burner.

Brasero has a distinct lack of configuration, where as k3b has *lots* in comparison

for instance,
when you hit the burn button you get a tab where you can specify the filesystem
( default being Linux/Unix + Windows )
