burn cds from the console

is there a way to burn cds from console mode? what package I have to install? I use debian etch

There may be several means of doing this, but I use 'cdrecord' which has tonnes of options for formatting and burning optical media. This is the back-end to popular GUI burning tools like K3B. Your system may already have it -- try 'man cdrecord' in a console to check.
