1. I was the first one to suggest the "rename" command, which in fact might be the best choice for your problem. Have you tried it?

2. I thought you were running from liveCD, hence the admonition not to attempt installing packages in that mode. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

3. In the context of the discussion, suggesting that you should re-think your reluctance to use terminal commands was entirely appropriate. Suppose you ask me a question about fixing cars and I tell you that the best approach involves using a garage jack to lift up the car. If you say you don't know how to use a garage jack, it might be quite logical and appropriate for me to suggest that you learn to do so.

Sorry i was so rude and abrupt. All answers were good and everyone deserved respect and thanks for helping me. Some things were not what i was looking for but helping people should be rewarded as most people do appreciate it in the end.

Now that i have been able to use Ubuntu at work and even installed it properly on the hard-drive without my boss hassling me it is all so much easier and better than the alternatives. This is largely due to the tireless help provided in forums by excellent people such as all those who kept trying to help me despite my rudeness.
